Wed June 4 "Benjamin Cook, a convict died of the fever. He had a wife and child aboard. Some of the Brethren informed her of his Death, on hearing this she was much affected and cried earnestly to the Lord to have mercy on his soul. She was informed that prayer now was of no avail on his behalf as his state was now irrevocably fixed according to the unerring testimony of God's word 'Where the tree falleth, so shall it be' exhorted her to put her trust in the Lord as he said ' Leave thy Fatherless children and I will preserve them alive, let thy widow's trust in me..' His body was committed to the deep. T Elder read part of the burial Service."

June 5 "Slight breeze and cloudy weather. Departed this life Bejm Cook, a convict, with a Fever commited his body as before. The fumigating being continued as before and strongly apployd (sic) as a very great affect in abating the fever to the joy and pleasure of everyone on board."
