![]() Note |
Ann Nina's baptism/birth certificate says she was born on 31st June 1854, however there is not 31 days in June therefore I have chosen 30th as her d.o.b. Her birth is reg. # V18543757 72/1854 Perry, Ann to John & Margaret. Her marriage is reg . at Macleay River # 2586/1869 Macguire/ McGuire, Patrick to Perry, Ann. Her death is reg. at Grafton # 8501/1895 Maguire, Ann - Parents John & Margaret. References to Maguire in books : "Glenreagh, A Town of Promise" Elizabeth Webb; pg 13 "The children named on the application ( 17 April 1887) and the distance they lived from the proposed school (Glenreagh's first school) site were ......John aged 13, Pat 11, William 9, Fred 7, Florie 5, and Winifred 4, the children of Pat Maguire were two miles distant". pg 27 There is a J Maguire who was present at the annual meeting of the School of Arts on 19th July 1913. pg 27 " Still no traffic bridge over the Orara in 1915. One had to cross the river north of the town where the water was shallow and then turn back south to the railway" ( I have read, but cannot find again, a ref to Maguires Crossing at Glenreagh). History of Coutt's Crossing & Nymboida Districts Vol 1 pg180 : "Thomas Ward drowned 11.10.1888 in the Orara river. Clarence & Richmond Examiner states " drowned while trying to cross Tallawudjah Ck...Inquest says - Drowned while tryiing to save horses trapped on an island as a result of the river being swollen by heavy rains.......They had been camped near P. Maguires place from Mon to Thurs owing to the wet. The drowning occurred at this point." "Glenreagh 1858-1983" under Shipman's "William & Theresa enjoyed their first meal under a Moreton Bay fig tree on the side of the road on what was known as McGuires Hill" (the remnants of this fig tree remain today, to the north of Glenreagh, near the old crossing over the Orara) |
